We're not just operating in the sky, but sometimes underwater too! Left the traditional drones at the office recently and pulled out the ROV for a habitat survey out near Powell River. We had some great sightings throughout the day, and one pleasant surprise was this harbour seal tucked down in the eelgrass. ROVs have come a long way over the years and open up some new options for surveys that were traditionally completed by a dive team. There is definitely a time and place for both types of surveys, but nice to have this in the SNRC toolbox! #ROV #habitat #marine #survey #harbourseal #PowellRiver #eelgrass #SNRC #Strategic #environment

We recently flew our highest drone mission to date

We recently flew our highest drone mission to date (above mean sea level), sending our fixed wing up over 1800 metres (5905 feet)! The entire flight maintained 120 metres above ground level as it followed the terrain during the mission. The purpose of this flight was to capture imagery and a high resolution DEM that could be used for avalanche modelling in the study area. Ground control and checkpoints were established, hundreds of photos were captured, and a number of useful data derivatives were produced. We have new corridor mapping modes available on our fixed wing drones, which helps us to be more efficient when mapping right-of-ways, rivers, or any other linear corridor. The study area is segmented automatically so as we move along to the next staging area there is no need to develop additional flight plans. This saves us a lot of time compared to our past workflow.
